VENT FREE or UNVENTED LOGS ARE THE MOST
EFFECIENT (99.9%) BUT HAVE SOME DRAWBACKS. THEY MUST BE USED IN A
MASONARY FIRE PLACE OR AN INSULATED PREFAB FIREPLACE, NEVER IN A
REGULAR PREFAB FIREPLACE THAT MUST BE VENTED TO COOL THE BOX.
ALSO THE VENT FREE PRODUCTS GIVE OFF SOME ODOR AND WATER VAPOR, WE
HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE MINOR FOR NATURAL GAS AND SLIGHTLY MORE FOR
LP GAS. IF YOU HAVE A REAL TIGHT HOME A WINDOW SHOULD BE OPENED
WHEN USING THESE PRODUCTS, THUS REDUCING THEIR EFFECIENCY. A CARBON MONOXIDE
DETECTOR IS RECOMMENDED WITH ANY GAS APPLIANCE.
VENTED GAS LOGS, BECAUSE OF THE YELLOW
FLAME, WHICH IS CARBON, MUST BE FULLY VENTED TO GET THE CARBON
OUT OF THE HOUSE, AND AVOID CARBON MONOXIDE BUILDUP. THEY CAN BE
USED ANYWHERE A WOOD BURNING FIRE CAN BE USED, INCLUDING PREFAB
FIREPLACES. A CARBON MONOXIDE
DETECTOR IS RECOMMENDED WITH ANY GAS APPLIANCE.
ALTERNATIVES TO GAS LOGS YOU CAN HAVE THE
BEST OF BOTH, THE LOOKS OF VENTED, AND THE ODOR AND WATER VAPOR
FREE WITH ALMOST THE EFFECIENCY OF AN UNVENTED LOG. THIS IS
ACCOMPLISHED WITH A VENTED GAS INSERT, EITHER B VENT OR DIRECT
VENT THESE INSERTS WILL PRODUCE UP TO 38,000 BTU OF HEAT WITH NO
ODOR AT ABOUT 80% EFFICIENCY. A CARBON MONOXIDE
DETECTOR IS RECOMMENDED WITH ANY GAS APPLIANCE.

APPALACHIAN unvented gas logs are some of
the best looking logs on the market, we recommend the millivolt
valve so a thermostat can be added to turn the logs off and on
automatically as needed. 40,000 btu's will overheat a room if

APPALACHIAN has a unique product in their
"HEET" log it is partially vented. Although classified
as a vented log it is up to 60% efficient, making it ideal for
prefab fireplaces, where vented logs are required. Appalachian
has two more vented logs in their product line.
